Bib on & Tuck in!

And last but not least is my personal favourite in Marinda Leigh's Top 5, Bib & Tucker in North Fremantle. Great ambiance and food with good table service.

I've been here more than any of the other cafes, around the same amount of visits Leigh has made to Gusto Food, and I've tried both their breakfast and lunch menu.

Breakfast finishes at 11am so you have to get there early to make it for their breakfast menu. When it rains, the outside sitting area will be closed which halves their seating capacity. I happen to always go to Bib & Tucker on a Sunday and I find that there is always a huge queue every time I go. To ensure you get seated for the breakfast menu, try to get there by 9am or aim for earlier.

With Great Gusto do I Eat!

The South Perth foreshore is one of my favourite places in Perth. It's so romantic in the evening or at night and many a date has been had there. In the day, when the weather is nice, I like to drive up there and go for a leisurely walk by the Swan River or spread out a picnic blanket and lay in the sun, chatting my life away with whomever it is I happened to spend my day with.

Gusto Food is located on Angelo St, close to Perth Zoo and a few streets up from the foreshore. The first time I went there, I went with my good friend Jess. She chose Gusto Food for our catch up as someone strongly recommended it to her. Excited and ready to try out this place, we decided to go fairly early to avoid the brunch-time crowds. When we got there, though, there was already a line. But with only two in the party, it wasn't too much of a wait and we were seated quickly. I enjoyed it so much that the next Sunday after Yoga, I went there again with a bunch of girlfriends!

Orders are made at the counter and there is an option to use card with a minimum of $10. It's not too hard to meet the minimum if you're having brunch there but I guess it could prove to be a problem for people who go there just for coffees. Speaking of which, the coffee at Gusto Food is great! First time, second time, third time; the coffees did not disappoint.

A Canvas of History and Art

The Fremantle Arts Centre is a magnificent structure that is full of history and rich in the blood of convicts, the mentally unstable and the elderly. A depository that did not discriminate against society's "unwanted", it seems. Built in 1864 by convicts, it went through phases from being a jail, an asylum, a women's home, and on and on until today, where it is now the Fremantle Arts Centre. Within Top 5, there sits No 4

There's something immensely pleasing to me when I go to a cafe and they have doggie bowls set up with water outside. It means they're dog friendly! I always make a mental note to bring the dogs one day and continue on into the cafe feeling all chuffed inside. But really, a thought is hardly an action now, isn't it?

As promised, this is the second post on Marinda Leigh's Top 5 brunch cafes in Perth. My previous on was on Casa Bianchi in Mt Hawthorn. Soon to come are Gusto Food in South Perth; Bib & Tucker in Fremantle; and Canvas Cafe in Fremantle.

No 4 Blake St is a trendy cafe that does dinner, brunch and high tea and is definitely one of my Top 5s! The first time I went there, I was with my boyfriend at the time and I was extremely impressed with their breakfast and coffee. We sat by their big glass windows with sunlight pouring through and read our newspapers whilst sipping away on the coffee, waiting for the food. I always appreciate a good cup of coffee.

When the food came out, I was so excited, I just wanted to stuff my face! But decorum held me back. Needless to say, I was very impressed once it did manage to make it to my mouth. No 4 has a humble selection on their breakfast menu which runs from 7am to 3pm and if that doesn't tickle your fancy, their lunch menu starts from 11:30am onwards. Check out their menus here.

After a much enjoyable first experience with No 4, I made it my mission to go back as soon as possible. But life got in the way and I didn't get a chance to go back until a couple of months later. When I did finally make my way back to No 4, service was just as great as I remembered it to be and the staff always had smiles on their faces.

I ordered the same dish as I did previously (I'm not one for change, it seems) and I was just as impressed, if not more! The fried green tomato was my favourite thing on the dish!

Tomato & Bacon: fried green tomato, poached eggs, bacon, hollandaise
